How to Keep Pet Hair at Bay
So you’ve finally gotten rid of the wet dog smell in your house only to be left with tufts of fur dotting every available surface, leaving you wondering how to get rid of pet hair without stripping your entire home clean. When your pet sheds a lot, it can be hard to keep up with the seemingly constant onslaught of hair everywhere. Not only does cleaning all this up add a decent chunk of time to your housekeeping routine, but pet hair removal seems like an endless cycle you just can’t seem to get yourself out of. So what is there to do?
Keep pet hair at bay, of course. And that’s exactly what we’re here to do!
Hair, Hair Everywhere
While eliminating every last strand from your home might be impossible, you can absolutely take steps to maintain the fuzzier corners of your household. Our suggestions are quick, easy, and affordable, making them perfect for pet owners everywhere.
1) Frequent Light Cleans VS. Periodic Deep Cleans
Have you ever heard the bit about how practicing something for ten minutes a day is better than a single, weekly hour-long session? The same principle applies to pet hair maintenance. The more you dust, sweep, and vacuum your home, the less likely you’ll be to find unsightly clumps of fur rolling about.
Hardwood and laminate floors are particularly easy to maintain thanks to their smooth surfaces. We recommend dusting these floors with a microfiber dust mop to pick up finer bits of fur, debris, and bacteria.
2) Establish Off-Limits Areas
If the difference between a clean and furry bedroom is having your four-legged friend sleep elsewhere, then you may want to consider blocking off certain rooms or areas from your pets. You won’t have to clean up pet hair in a place they can’t tool around.
If this isn’t an option, though, don’t worry; an alternative is to designate a few blankets for your pet that they can fuzz up with abandon. That way, your pet can still hang in the same room as you without leaving a trail of fur in their wake.
3) Load Up Your Fur-Free Arsenal
There are a few household tools you can add into the rotation to keep fur from flying so freely. If you haven’t purchased any of the following, add these to your shopping list:
- Lint roller
- Multi-surface angled broom
- Packing tape
- Slip-on furniture covers
Of course, these are just a few of the items that’ll help cut down on flyaway pet hair. If you don’t have access to a lint roller or packing tape and need to de-fuzz ASAP, really any kind of tape or light adhesive surface will do the trick.
Happy Pet Hair Removal!
While it may seem like an impossible task, not all hope is lost when it comes to keeping pet hair at bay. We’re confident that by following our suggestions above, you’ll keep pet hair gone from (most of) the surfaces in your home. Thanks for reading and check back regularly for our next post!
